How Nature Works

When your roof is in the elements certain organic debris will start to build up and over time fester into a damaging algae that grows on your roof and eats away at the shingles composition for food. This algae is Gloeocapsa Magma and when left alone will reck havoc to your roof. While eating away your roof shingles, it turns black to absorb as much light (photosynthesis) to thrive. Because it is black in color you can expect to have a higher a/c bill as your roof will absorb more sunlight instead of reflecting it. Gloeocapsa Magma will mostly develop in high moisture areas of your roof for water because these areas do not dry completely from direct sunlight. Especially under trees where pollen, leaf, insect and animal debris build up and feed the algae to grow. If this black algae is left untreated it will eventually become its largest organism form which is Moss. This organic and natural process takes anywhere from 3-7 years to form, build up and become algae, lichen and then moss.

How We Clean your Roof

Depending on which type and stage your roof is will determine what care and maintenance is required. When moss is present we can knock off a substantial amount with our shingle approved nylon brushes. These specialized brushes are for roofs and will not damage the shingles composition. After the roof and gutters are free of large debris and flowing correctly we will apply a roof approved solution with low pressure. Our solution is approved by ARMA (Asphalt Roofing Manufactures Association) and specifically made for roofs. This specialized cleaning solution is mixed on site to make sure it's the right one for the job and your roof. When this cleaning solution is applied, within 1-2 minutes it will kill the algae organism on your roof and turn it bright white to indicate it is working. Within 20-30 minutes the solution has done its job and when left on it will dry out all organic organisms. If you want immediate results we can rinse your roof with light pressure. To do this we have to implement property protection methods including heavily flushing clean water down all drains, covering sensitive plants and bagging downspouts to capture any cleaning solution as its applied. This will drive up the cost but we completely understand this need if selling/buying a home or hosting a event like a wedding. However as per shingle manufacturers recommended cleaning specifications, our specialized solution should be left on and rain fall from mother nature will gradually rinse your roof to like new within 2-4 months.
